RE: FIGHTING OPIOID ADDICTION TO SAVE FUTURE GENERATIONS!

Encouraging Leaders Organization

121 Washington Ave N

Minneapolis, MN 55401

To Whom It May Concern:

Did you know that 20% of the deaths of the BIPOC population result from opioid addiction? In 2020 alone, 678 people died from an opioid overdose. We have been part of the Minneapolis community and witnessed the adverse effect of Opioid Addiction on our family, children, relatives, colleagues, and friends. Encouraging Leaders (EL) has put a fierce fight on opioid use among the youth and stived to help them in their rehabilitation journey and restart their lives through skills and mentorships. In the last few weeks, EL has received 10s of young people daily coming to our offices to get help in withdrawing from opioids. Many of these youths are homeless. They include young adults, including pregnant and breastfeeding mothers with nowhere to turn.

It has been difficult for us to overstretch our resources, accommodate these young people, and help them regain their future. The BIPOC young people are already experiencing structural inequalities, leading to drug addiction. Hence, we are urging all of us to be the shoulder these youths can lean on while on their way to a transformative future.

However, EL’s resources are overstretched, and we cannot achieve fight on our own. We plan to provide a safe place daily and give treatment options. Over the next few weeks, we would like to employ our outreach workers to the affected location in Minneapolis. RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE, AND TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

We are currently in need of the below services dearly:

Volunteers to help at our program

In-kind donations such as food, sanitation materials, clothing, sanitary towels for the women and girls, or any in-kind donation can help meet their basic needs.

Treatment facilities to help us in rehabilitating these youths.

Monetary donations towards the purchase of necessities and treatment.. Any small contributions will help us achieve this.
